Calling all energy sector professionals, supply chain community members, and future innovators – join us for an evening of networking and learning as we explore topics on innovation and Canada’s energy future.

Brought to you by CHOA and Supply Chain Canada, Future Innovators in Energy is a three-part series of networking events to connect industry professionals and students to discuss important topics about Canada’s energy future and the innovation happening in the sector. In March, prepare to learn and dive into an interactive discussion about Canada’s energy future. We are honoured to welcome Dr. B. Hayes to present on the topic of the 21^st Century Energy Transition.

Keynote Presentation:

Energy is the cornerstone of all our activities and aspirations. It powers our communities, fuels innovation, and is essential for achieving a sustainable future. Recognizing the pivotal role of energy, the United Nations has identified affordable and clean energy (SDG#7) as a fundamental goal among its Sustainable Development Goals. This goal underpins the achievement of other critical objectives, such as ensuring access to food, water, and safeguarding human rights.

Today, fossil fuels contribute to over 80% of our global energy supply. This reliance on fossil fuels highlights the necessity for a gradual, informed transition towards a more diverse and sustainable energy mix. The transition, shaped by historical trends and practical considerations, is expected to unfold over the coming decades.

In navigating this transition, it is crucial to balance emissions reduction efforts with the imperative of energy security. Join us an evening of interactive discussions and learning as we look to the future and explore ideas to ensure the resilience and sustainability of our energy systems.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

BRAD HAYES, PhD, P.Geo

Brad Hayes is President of Petrel Robertson Consulting Ltd., a geoscience and engineering consulting firm advising clients working in oil and gas, helium and lithium exploration, carbon capture and storage, geothermal energy and water resource management.

Brad holds a PhD in geology from the University of Alberta and has 40 years of diverse experience applying subsurface geoscience in resource industries. He is the Outreach Director for the Canadian Society for Evolving Energy and a Past-President of the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists. He is a member of the Energy Resources Technical Advisory Committee for Geoscience BC and a Fellow of the Balsillie School for International Affairs.

Brad is an Adjunct Professor in the University of Alberta Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. Leading a team supported by U of A and CSEE, he developed a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) “21^st Century Energy Transition – How do We Make it Happen?” as a product of extensive research and consultation on modern energy issues.

NAIT Main Campus is located at 106 Street and Princess Elizabeth Avenue in Edmonton, mailing address is 11762 106 Street. The meeting will take place in the Conference Hall (PIC 120/122). Registrants will receive a full refund for courses or events cancelled by Supply Chain Canada, Alberta Institute.

Registrants who have received written acceptance into a course and provided written notice to Supply Chain Canada, Alberta Institute of their withdrawal from the course or event 14 days before the start of class, will be provided with a full refund. After 14 days, refunds will not be granted.

If you would like to withdraw from a course or event please send an e-mail to [email protected]. You are required to inform the Alberta Institute of your intent as soon as possible. Clearly state your intention to withdraw and provide authorization for us to proceed.
