OVERVIEW

Capital project execution in every sector, both private and public, continues to lead to poor outcomes. Projects are consistently over budget, over time, and continue to deliver underwhelming outcomes. A 2022 McKinsey study analyzed more than 500 projects around the world, each with a total project value of at least $100M, that that cost overruns ran at least 79% relative to budget estimates, while delays were 52% over schedule. There are many factors that contribute to this, one of which may be the contracting model employed.

Capital Project Contracting: Exploring Alternative Project Delivery Models explores innovative approaches to managing and executing complex projects across diverse industries. This course provides an overview of non-traditional contract delivery models, Early Constructor Involvement (ECI), Progressive Design Build, Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), Alliancing, and other forms of collaborative project delivery. Participants will explore various forms of contracting delivery and analyze the advantages associated with these models.

When done right, these models bring tremendous value to projects in terms of cost, timeline, and product outcome that meet the needs of all stakeholders. By attending this collaborative workshop, participants will gain an appreciation for the complexity of capital projects, understand the challenges of traditional contracting approaches, and explore the value of alternative project delivery models.

This workshop will equip you to better engage internal and external project clients and suppliers. Additionally, it will provide you with new models to consider in your project procurement toolbox.

KEY OUTCOMES

By attending this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Appreciate the challenges of capital project delivery.
  • Learn the differences and benefits of alternative project delivery approaches compared to conventional methods.
  • Explore how each alternative model functions and how each model can be applied for specific project needs.
